Spencerism #25: Is It Enough? Finding Contentment

Spencerisms

Doesn’t it seem like we’re always striving for comfort in our lives? We set our sights on the next “thing” in life that will hopefully satisfy us — the new house, job, relationship, retirement, etc. But we also know when we’ve achieved other milestones in our lives the comfort has faded pretty quickly, and a new mirage ahead of us becomes our next hope of comfort. This trap keeps us on a hamster wheel of perpetual dissatisfaction.

I’ve heard it said a definition of contentment can be stated as a question: “is it enough?” Is what you have right now enough to bring you joy?

The sooner we can see our lives for the amazing blessings we have, the sooner we can find true contentment that surpasses the circumstances of life or the carrot ahead of us.

Gratefully,
Spence (May 2024)

One day back in 2022, Spencer said in a staff meeting, “I want to think of a way to make billing a little nicer for our clients. Nobody likes to open a bill, especially for architectural services.” And thus, Spencerisms were born. That’s an internal name we initially gave these short notes Spencer writes to our clients each month, if they receive a bill. The name stuck, only because we couldn’t think of anything else that fit. We hope you’ll enjoy these bits of encouragement (or simple thoughts) Spencer shares each month.
