Spencerism #35: Every Moment Is a Gift

Spencerisms

Within the last couple of weeks a close buddy of mine learned he has a form of cancer with a low success rate. The symptom that tipped him off was morphine level pain that landed him in the hospital for a week. Once he was back on his feet, feeling better and wrestling with the months of chemo and treatments ahead of him, he was brought to his knees again a week later with even more acute abdomen pain. He was rushed to the hospital to find he had a kidney stone! Thank God!?!

After all this and the weight of his situation he sent me this note:

“Suffering is the only way to sanctification. When we are in the valley of life and there seems to be no way out, these dark moments bring to light the most important aspects of our character and also make us painfully aware of our hang ups that are not worth worrying about.”

Nothing like the sober thoughts of a friend who is looking at each moment of life through a new lens. What a great reminder to us all to live life each day as a precious gift.

Hug a little tighter. Love a little deeper. Let go of the garbage that is distracting us.

Gratefully,
Spence (March 2025)

One day back in 2022, Spencer said in a staff meeting, “I want to think of a way to make billing a little nicer for our clients. Nobody likes to open a bill, especially for architectural services.” And thus, Spencerisms were born. That’s an internal name we initially gave these short notes Spencer writes to our clients each month, if they receive a bill. The name stuck, only because we couldn’t think of anything else that fit. We hope you’ll enjoy these bits of encouragement (or simple thoughts) Spencer shares each month.
