What happens when we mistakenly use “being nice” as a cover to not tell the hard truth? Being nice can be a cover for avoiding something that needs to be said, when avoiding it only pushes the issue deeper…and can even make it bigger.
Conflict is scary, but handled correctly it’s good. Getting comfortable in painful conversations will always lead to a better outcome than avoiding it in order to be “nice.”
Authentic people have hard conversations.
I pray for courage for all of us to step into those conversations we wish we could avoid – deeper, stronger, and genuine relationships hang in the balance.

One day back in 2022, Spencer said in a staff meeting, “I want to think of a way to make billing a little nicer for our clients. Nobody likes to open a bill, especially for architectural services.” And thus, Spencerisms were born.
