Like most of us, our parents are getting older and sooner or later they get sick. Well, last month on her 80th birthday, my mom discovered she had ovarian cancer that has spread to her lungs and elsewhere. It was hard to imagine how this powerful force of nature could have this terrible diagnosis. Many ask, “How is she doing?”
Our whole family, with all the grandkids, got together on Thanksgiving to “visit” with ‘Lita (her grandma name). She sat us all down and explained that at 5 years old she dedicated her life to Christ, and ever since her life has had purpose and meaning. For her, this diagnosis was not scary or worrisome, but just another reason to be grateful for each day. She continued that we will all pass away at some point, but for her that is an exciting endeavor to meet the Lord she has dedicated her whole life to serving.
What a message of hope and peace in the face of terrifying news! I can’t think of a better story for this season.
PS:. Ma is in great spirits, on her second round of chemo, in no pain, laughing and carrying on like the true champion she is.
Gratefully,
Spence (December 2024)
One day back in 2022, Spencer said in a staff meeting, “I want to think of a way to make billing a little nicer for our clients. Nobody likes to open a bill, especially for architectural services.” And thus, Spencerisms were born. That’s an internal name we initially gave these short notes Spencer writes to our clients each month, if they receive a bill. The name stuck, only because we couldn’t think of anything else that fit. We hope you’ll enjoy these bits of encouragement (or simple thoughts) Spencer shares each month.
