Scope of Project/Services

The clients needed complete architectural services for the design of a new 8500 square foot home in Portsmouth, RI, with 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. 

Special Requests or Needs of the Client or Job

One of the unique requests was a two-story garage, which we incorporated nicely into the overall design. 

Challenges and Solutions 

One challenge was the clients’ desire for a massive finished basement with its own walkout. We extended the basement out and below the large first-floor deck, ending it flush with the edge of the deck, and incorporating large windows and glass doors along the entire wall. This optimized the beautiful water views and natural light for both the basement and first floor.  

Special or Remarkable Features

Because this was a waterfront home, we designed it with the views always in mind, and gave the front entry and every room in the house access to those water views. We also designed a two-story trussed great room to be the main gathering space, overlooking the water from the main level of the home.

What We Enjoyed Most About this Project

Collaboration with the clients was one of the most enjoyable parts of the process. They were great to work with. The entire family loved the finished project so much, both adult children were married in the house.
