Elm Street Residence, Newport, Rhode Island
Scope of Project/Architectural Services
We provided the entire range of architectural services from as-built drawings to schematic design, construction documents and construction administration and support, including a presentation to the City of Newport Historic District Commission.
Architectural Challenges and Solutions
Because this is a historic Newport home, there were structural issues, floor leveling issues, and some unknown conditions in the space. We had Scott Gallo, a wonderful contractor who especially skilled in dealing with these types of challenges, on the job. He worked with us to solve these issues.
Special and Remarkable Features
The kitchen space was a complete gut and renovation. We opened a portion of the ceiling to create a double height space. We added rustic beams for visual interest and to tie into the rustic exposed shelving.
The dining space was previously two separate rooms. We opened up that entire side of the house to create an open floor plan.
What We Enjoyed Most About This Project
”We were lucky enough to have them as clients. They had some pretty unique ideas for their home. It was great to put our minds together and come up with this beautiful solution. The photos showcase the two rooms in which we did the most work in the house, but thanks to their excellent design sense the entire home looks just as beautiful.” Rebecca Zaylor, CDA Architect
